We believe strongly in giving back to our local community. Here's how you can help. During your next visit, look for the Kitchen Karma symbol next to the featured menu item and cocktail of the month.

With every purchase of these items we will donate $1 to the Kitchen Karma charity of the month.

For October, in conjunction with Breast Cancer Awareness Month, we will be raising money for SOS Low Country; a local non-profit dedicated to assisting those with everyday needs as they battle breast cancer. SOS (Share Our Suzy) is a completely volunteer-driven organization with no staff and no overhead. This allows for all the money that is raised to go directly to helping patients right here in the Charleston area. For more information on SOS Low Country, visit their website at www.soslowcountry.org. Below is a story about Suzy and how SOS was born.

Suzy McGrane was a local photographer who was diagnosed in her early twenties with breast cancer. While battling cancer in Arizona near her family, her friends from SC gathered in Columbia to find a way to help with the financial expenses related to her treatment. The friends put together Save Our Suzy, SOS, a wine-tasting event in Five Points. That night new and old friends gathered together for one incredible evening; all with the same goal, to save their friend.

After completing her treatment, Suzy returned to Columbia a new person, with a new goal in sight. While working with a local cancer center, Suzy was able to raise funds for breast cancer patients. SOS events continued and thousands of dollars were raised. Each time, Suzy had new patient stories to share with her friends. She would help them all, in any way she could.

In the fall of 2004, the cancer returned and again SOS became an effort to Save Our Suzy. Events were held in Columbia and Charleston (Suzy’s second home) raising money to help fight the battle. In less than one year cancer would claim Suzy’s life, but not her spirit.

This year, we have partnered with El Jimador for October. El Jimador has agreed to donate $5 to our chosen charity for every bottle of El Jimador we purchase during the month of October. In addition, SOL is donating $1 for every Pink Cocktail sold during the month. So the more El Jimador we purchase and sell, the more money we raise for the charity.
